The David C. Y. Ho Memorial Scholarship

About This Scholarship

This scholarship is given in honor of Mr. David C. Y. Ho (1936-2017). Trained as a social worker, David’s early career led him to counsel high school students at the local NYC public schools. He then led one of the first social service agencies in Chinatown (the Chinese Development Council), which aimed to provide services to the recently immigrated Chinese community in Lower Manhattan. During its time, the Council organized countless naturalization and professional English workshops, engaged in work placement services, and even created a federal credit union specifically devoted to serving the Chinese American community.

David valued civic duty and moral uprightness and believed in nurturing the paths of unconventional paths. This scholarship was established by his daughter Emily H. Ho ’08 in honor of these spirit and values. The scholarship is awarded in the amount of $2,000 to a single student who elects to work a low or unpaid internship in the summer following their senior year to give them a chance to pursue their dreams.
