Stuyvesant Alumni from all class years are invited to join authors Yume Kitasei ’05 (The Deep Sky and The Stardust Grail), Rachel Hope Cleves ’91 and Aram Sinnreich ’90 (A Second Chance for Yesterday) for a virtual book talk of their respective books on November 13, 2024. The discussion will be moderated by Annie Thoms ’93.
A Q&A will follow the discussion.
We are glad to extend this book talk opportunity to Stuyvesant alumni, students, and friends. The event will be held on Wednesday, November 13 at 7PM (ET) via Zoom. (Zoom Link to be provided upon RSVP.)

Yume Kitasei ’05
Yume Kitasei ’05 is the author of The Deep Sky and The Stardust Grail. She is half Japanese and half American and grew up in a space between two cultures—the same space where her stories reside. She lives in Brooklyn with two cats, Boondoggle and Filibuster. Her stories have appeared in publications including New England Review, Catapult, SmokeLong Quarterly, and Baltimore Review.
Rachel Hope Cleves ’91
Rachel Hope Cleves ’91 is an author and Professor of History at the University of Victoria. Her books include The Reign of Terror in America, Charity and Sylvia, Unspeakable, and sci-fi novel A Second Chance for Yesterday (coauthored with Aram Sinnreich as R.A. Sinn). Her next book, Lustful Appetites: An Intimate History of Good Food and Wicked Sex, comes out in the UK in November 2024, and in North America in February 2025. Her work has been featured in the Washington Post, The Guardian, The Boston Globe, NPR, BrainPickings, Salon, and elsewhere.
Aram Sinnreich ’89
Dr. Aram Sinnreich ’89 is an author, musician, and Professor of Communication Studies at American University. His books include Mashed Up, The Piracy Crusade, The Essential Guide to Intellectual Property, The Secret Life of Data, and sci-fi novel A Second Chance for Yesterday (coauthored with Rachel Hope Cleves as R.A. Sinn). He has written articles about culture, law, and technology for outlets including The New York Times, Billboard, Wired, The Daily Beast, and Rolling Stone, and has appeared as an expert commentator on CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR, and elsewhere.

Annie Thoms ’93
Annie Thoms ’93 graduated from Stuyvesant High School and has taught English there since 2000, with a few breaks to care for her three children and to work as a Teacher Consultant with the NYC Writing Project. At Stuyvesant, her courses have included Freshman Composition, American Short Stories, Writers’ Workshop, Women’s Voices, Writing in the World, and her current selective, Writing to Make Change. She is the editor of the play with their eyes: September 11th–the view from a high school at ground zero.
