Speakers and Host Bios

JonAlf Dyrland-Weaver ’01 has been a Computer Science teacher at Stuyvesant since 2007, and took over the helm as Director
of Computer Science in 2016. He has done his best to continue the traditions of excellence and ridiculousness. In addition to his full time duties at Stuyvesant, JonAlf (along with other Stuy CS luminaries Mike Zamansky, Topher Mykolyk and Sam Konstantinovich) helped create and teach in the first CS Education Masters/Certificate program in NYC at Hunter College. JonAlf has also held a number of other positions
helping to push Computer Science education both in NYC and New York State and nationally.

Kieren James-Lubin ’07 is CEO at BlockApps, developer of the STRATO Mercata Protocol and Marketplace. Borne from the launch of Ethereum, BlockApps has worked with some of the world’s largest enterprises and governments and raised approximately $50 M. Kieren holds a BA in Mathematics from Princeton University and was all-but-dissertation at UC Berkeley in Mathematical Physics, before co-founding BlockApps.

Mike Zamansky ’84 has been called the “Godfather of CS Education.” He is the architect of Stuyvesant’s highly regarded computer science program and during his over 2 decades running the program has taught and shepherded hundreds of Stuy grads into the tech industry. More recently, Mike has worked as a Distinguished Lecturer at Hunter College creating New York State’s first K-12 computer science teacher certification program which has, to date, prepared the states first hundred certified CS teachers. Mike was also a lead author on New York State’s Computer Science and Digital Literacy standards and is a mainstay in the local and national computer science education communities.
