Join us for our first industry event of 2025
Overview
Stuyvesant Alumni from all class years are invited to attend our January 2025 Stuy Alumni in Healthcare Panel: The Changing Faces of Medicine, where a panel of alumni physicians will discuss how their roles have expanded from that of the traditional idea of a doctor, through such activities as founding startups, engaging in public health outreach, and podcasting. They will also reflect on what these changes in their medical careers reflect about the present and future of healthcare.

Those who attend will be able to hear from your fellow Stuyvesant alumni discuss their current role in healthcare and ask questions about their paths.

Panelist Bios
Howard M. Julien, MD ’01 is a cardiologist specializing in nuclear cardiac imaging, echocardiography, and non-invasive cardiology. He currently works in late-stage drug development and prior to this was on faculty at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine where he served as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine. At Penn Medicine he was active in many activities serving as a member of the Consultative Cardiology group, Vice-Chief for Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity for the Department of Medicine, Associate Program Director for the Division of Cardiology’s cardiovascular disease fellowship training program and Director of Diversity Initiatives for the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. Howard obtained his BS in Biomedical Education from the City College of New York and his MD from Albany Medical College. He completed his Internal Medicine residency training at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center and general cardiology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Additionally, he obtained an MPH at Harvard University School of Public Health and a Master’s in Law at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. His research/professional interests include identifying and reducing health outcomes disparities in minoritized populations, cost effective healthcare delivery, and mentorship/career development of underrepresented individuals in medicine. His personal interests/hobbies include baking, digital photography, travel/hiking, pottery, and knitting.
Charles Miller, MD ’04 serves as an Associate Vice President in Clinical Development at EyeBio, a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc (Rahway, New Jersey, USA). Fellowship-trained in vitreoretinal surgery, Charles began his career in drug development as a Medical Director in the Early Clinical Development group at Regeneron. In this role Charles was also able to leverage his training as a translational scientist. An active researcher, Charles has published more than 25 peer-reviewed papers and has lectured on his original research at major scientific meetings.
Charles received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, his M.D. from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Princeton University. Charles completed his residency training in ophthalmology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY where he was selected as Chief Resident and then returned to the University of Pennsylvania’s Scheie Eye Institute to complete his vitreoretinal fellowship. He continues to practice as volunteer faculty at his alma mater, SUNY Downstate, teaching residents at Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn.
Charlene Ngamwajasat, MD ’01 is currently the Senior Physician Informaticist, Population Health Clinical Advisor, and acting Preventive Medicine Residency Director at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Bureau of Equitable Health Systems. Dr. Ngamwajasat is a graduate of the 7-year combined BS/MD program at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, received her MD from SUNY Downstate Medical School, and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Informatics and is currently an MBA candidate at the Zicklin School of Business. She is passionate about medical education, technology, and digital health. Her other passions are food, travel, and her dogs.
Deep Parikh, MD ’06 graduated from Stuyvesant High School Class of 2006. He then went on to complete his Bachelor’s Degree and his Medical Degree at the Honors B.A. and M.D. program at Brooklyn College and SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, followed by Ophthalmology Residency at Northwell Health System, Uveitis Fellowship at MEETH / Lenox Hill Hospital, and Retina Fellowship at Harvard Medical School. He sees patients in private practice in Manhattan and Long Island and teaches Residents and Fellows as Clinical Associate Professor at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai and teaches Medical Students at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Parikh co-hosts a podcast The Ophthalmology Business Academy Podcast and serves on the editorial board of Eyes On Eyecare, on the Advisory Board of Alimera Sciences, and as a Key Opinion Leader (KOL) for Zeiss Vision Care USA. He is passionate about clinical research and innovation in healthcare.
Neeraj Singh, MD ’01 is a neurologist and epileptologist with Northwell Health. Based in Queens, Dr. Singh helps to direct epilepsy services in Forest Hills and Rego Park, and conducts clinical research in epilepsy, stroke, dementia, and other neurological disorders in Queens and Long Island. He also advocates with legislators for medical research funding and improved patient access to healthcare.
