FEATURED SPEAKERS

Erik Paulino ’89

Erik Paulino ’89 has devoted his life to public service since he created the first Latino student organization 30 years ago at New York City’s Stuyvesant High School. Since then, he has committed himself to improving conditions for the underrepresented.

During his four years at the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied International Relations, and later at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, he led student advocacy organizations, which prepared him for positions with major institutions, such as the National Council of La Raza, the Hispanic Federation, and Legal Services of New York. He continues to express his passion for advocacy by being on the boards of Fifth Avenue Committee and Neighbors Helping Neighbors, both serving the community in Brooklyn where he grew up.

His belief in justice and a right to equal access to education led Erik to found La Unidad Latina Foundation as a scholarship fund benefiting Latino college and graduate students, as well as student advocacy organizations across the United States.

Erik has successfully combined his knowledge of the nonprofit sector with his government experience, holding positions as the Director of Constituent Services for Brooklyn, Director of Community Affairs for the New York City Health Department, Deputy Commissioner for Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs in the Bloomberg Administration. Currently, as senior advisor of intergovernmental and legislative affairs for the New York City Department of Social Services, he’s applying all of his public policy, communications, and advocacy training to improve conditions for all New Yorkers in need.
