SING! first came to Stuyvesant in 1973. Almost 50 years later, it has become one of the defining extracurricular activities of student life. Described in Stuyvesant: The First 100 Years as “an annual competition between grades in which the theater is the battlefield and song, dance, comedy, and creativity are the weapons,” SING! encourages hundreds of students from each grade to collaborate and create elaborate original productions, build school spirit, and make life-long memories in the process.
The COVID-19 pandemic has presented an unprecedented challenge for this year’s production of SING! But with all that students have already lost in this past year of remote schooling and canceled activities, the 2021 SING! Coordinators are determined to ensure the success of this important Stuyvesant tradition.
The goal of our virtual production is to bring the Stuy community together, give students a taste of normalcy, and provide a bright spot in a hard year. Whether it be seniors looking for their last hurrah, or freshman looking to make new friends, this year's virtual SING! will play both an immediate and historically significant role at Stuy.
In light of the difficult financial circumstances that some students face which have been further exacerbated by the pandemic, the SING! Coordinators have decided to eliminate all member dues and ticket costs which have traditionally funded 90% of production expenses. To fund SING’s production, the Alumni Association is partnering with the Student Union and SING! Coordinators to organize a crowdfunding campaign that will allow Stuyvesant alumni, parents, and supporters to take part in this year’s SING festivities.
Your tax-deductible donations will grant you access to the SING! live stream on June 19th, invitation to an exclusive Q&A panel with SING coordinators, get your name printed in the credit, and more! Look below for the different donation tiers and the perks that come with them. But more importantly, your donations will fund the new technology needed for this year’s production: video editing and music production software, green screens, microphones, video-streaming platforms to distribute the final production, and more!
