Brightwood Screening & Panel Discussion

Join us in person for a private film screening!

Stuyvesant Alumni from all class years are invited to join Max Woertendyke ’01 (Producer/Featured Actor) and Dane Elcar (Producer/Writer/Director) for a private screening of the critically acclaimed Sci-Fi Horror film Brightwood on November 15, 2024. The discussion will be moderated by Johnny Wu ‘01.

Doors will open at 5:30pm, and the film will begin promptly at 6:00pm (runtime 84 minutes). A Q&A will follow the screening.

We are glad to extend this opportunity to Stuyvesant alumni, students, and friends. The event will be held on Wednesday, November 15 at 5:30PM in the Murray Kahn Theater at Stuyvesant High School.

Panelists and Moderator Bios

Max Woertendyke ’01

Max Woertendyke is the award-winning producer and Founder of Noble Gas Media, a prestige production company focused on the development, production and financing of feature films in the thriller, drama, horror and dark comedy genres. He was the lead Producer on BRIGHTWOOD and is the regular producing partner of David Corenswet (SUPERMAN), Vella Lovell (ANIMAL CONTROL), Dane Elcar (BRIGHTWOOD) and more.

A New York native, Max is a Stuyvesant alum (and ex-Big Sibs Chair and winning SING! Director ;)), as well as being a graduate of The Juilliard School of Drama, where he received the Juilliard Career Advancement Fellowship and The Jonathan Madrigano Entrepreneurship Grant for his commitment to quality storytelling and enterprising spirit.

Aside from indie horror hit BRIGHTWOOD, recent notable projects include: award-winning REAL LIVE GIRL (dir. by Corenswet), DESTINY (written/dir. by J. Anthony Roman), MILQUETOAST (written/dir. by Eliza Huberth, starring Vella Lovell and Kayhun Kim), and most recently WOMAN IN THE SKY, his own documentary about abstract expressionist Jon Schueler and his widow, Magda Salvesen who single handedly kept his legacy alive.

As a performer, Max has been seen in Tony and Aurelco Award winning revivals, Emmy winning television series, and breakout indie films.

Dane Elcar

Dane Elcar is an award winning writer, director & editor whose films have screened all over the U.S. and Europe including at Another Hole in the Head, Salem Horror Festival, Panic Fest, HorrorHound, The Philip K. Dick Film Festival, Cine Excess and more.

His debut feature BRIGHTWOOD earned 94% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, was called “a masterclass” in The Guardian and was compared to work by Strindberg, Cassavetes, and Baumbach in The Austin Chronicle.

A published author, his writings have appeared in a number of notable literary journals including Puerto Del Sol, Fiddleblack, and Necessary Fiction.

He is working on his next film, a techno-thriller, DRIVE BY NIGHT, alongside Woertendyke and Noble Gas Media.

Born in Los Angeles and growing up a little more than an hour north in Santa Paula, California, Dane now lives in Princeton, NJ with his wife and young daughter.

Johnny Wu ’01

Films credits include: A Journal for Jordan (dir. Denzel Washington), Tracers, Hold Fast Good Luck, Limitless. TV: Johnny plays Detective Joey Browner on new hit CBS show, Elsbeth. His other recurring roles include Chicago Med, The Good Wife, Law and Order: SVU, and 24 and he has guest starred on FBI: Most Wanted, The Other Two, Manifest, New Amsterdam, High Maintenance, The Code, Blue Bloods, Kevin Can Wait, Covert Affairs, Person of Interest, and Cold Case. Theater: Johnny recently finished a run of The Headlands at A.C.T. He has worked on Broadway, at Lincoln Center Theater, Guthrie Theater, Goodman Theater, La Jolla Playhouse, A.C.T. and Berkeley Rep. Johnny earned his MFA in Acting from UC San Diego and is on faculty at the Yale School of Drama. SAG-AFTRA, AEA. Up next: Season 8 of SWAT on CBS. Binghamton University, ’05.
